If you've followed my blog for long enough, you will know by now that music is an enormous part of my life. Which reminds me, I need to get my violin bow fixed and start practicing again...
Back on topic:
I am always listening to music. Often, all I am doing is listening to music. There is something in music that pulls me in. It's not just a background noise for me. There is something very real happening in my mind while music plays. Often times, I'll just lean back on the couch, close my eyes and fall into the sound. I'm not doing nothing.
I'm listening to music.
YouTube has been invaluable for me in discovering new music. Through YouTube, I've stumbled across Two Steps From Hell, The Piano Guys, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Thomas Bergersen, Lindsey Stirling, Peter Hollens and Malukah, all of whose music I now own (legally. I support the artists I gain from, thank-you very much!). Recommendations from friends have helped a lot too.
As in this instance.
My Kung Fu brother P.M. posted some music on my personal Facebook wall this morning, probably knowing me well enough to know that I like the way Gregorian chant sounds (he's right. I've loved it since I was very young).
Well, this is Gregorian music. Only it's Gregorian music with a twist - popular modern songs put to Gregorian style chanting. The effect is magical. Don't believe me? Listen for yourself. Try Before the Dawn or Nothing Else Matters. I'm particularly fond of My Immortal. Though that took me a while to warm up to. It's now one of my favourites.
You're welcome.
Now I'm off to dive into other worlds. Have a wonderful weekend!
